From the Greek barys, which means “heavy” making reference to its high specific weight.
The crystalline system is rhomb or orthorhombic.
Hardness: 3 – 3.5 on Mohs scale
Density: around 4.3 gr/cc.
Properties: high density, intense shine and non soluble in acids.
Three levels of whiteness are produced from high quality natural barium sulphate (higher than 87 %, 92% and 95 %) and also three degrees of micronization (0 – 10 microns, 0- 20 microns and 0 – 30 microns) for each degree of whiteness.
The types of available barite are:
First Whiteness higher than 87 %
Extra Whiteness higher than 92 %
White Whiteness higher than 94 %
